Most entrees less than $10 Brisket Basket Cuisine: BarbecueBrisket takes center stage here; there are no ribs. To get a quick tour, opt for the triple slider basket, in which a ground brisket burger, carved brisket and a barbecue-sauced sloppy chopped brisket are tucked onto pillowy rolls with a dab of chipotle mayo. The meat is cooked all night, with smoky sweet and smoky hot paprika the central spice note of its dry rub. Defatted while the brisket is still hot, it doesn't have that uber-fatty texture that turns some folks off to brisket. The side dishes that threaten to steal the brisket's thunder: mind-blowing fries, tangy hot German potato salad and green chili hominy.

TEXAS-STYLEBrisket Basket, St. Petersburg
Owner Linda Bernard says the tradition of slow-roasted beef brisket isn't just from Texas, but hails from all over. So, fine. Maybe we should call this "freestyle."
Brisket Basket is a newcomer, opened in May at the site of the old Triplett's drive-in across from St. Petersburg High. It's where brisket takes center stage in the barbecue drama. There are no ribs.
To get a quick tour, opt for the triple slider basket ($6.95), in which a ground brisket burger, carved brisket and a barbecue-sauced "sloppy" chopped brisket are tucked onto pillowy rolls with a dab of gorgeous chipotle mayo. The meat is cooked all night, with smoky sweet and smoky hot paprika the central spice note of its dry rub. Defatted while the brisket is still hot, it doesn't have that uber-fatty texture that turns some folks off to brisket.
BB is blessed, or cursed, with side dishes that threaten to steal the brisket's thunder. Potatoes are hand-cut, washed, blanched quickly, then fried in clean oil. The results? Mind-blowing fries ($2.99). The tangy hot German potato salad ($2.99) is nearly as good, bacony and with balsamic vinegar; and the green chili hominy ($1.99) will win people over to the textural challenges of baked, dried field corn kernels with its combination of mild chilies, sour cream and sharp cheddar.
You order inside and await your food at one of a handful of picnic tables under the overhang.

One of my neighbors, who knows I am a BBQ nut, told me a new little place had opened called the Brisket Basket. It is an old drive-in restaurant right across from St. Pete High on 5th Ave. N. Well, even though it is tax season, I forced myself to take today off to run some errands and have lunch at BB.
Even though it was raining when I drove up, this was not a sign of bad things ahead. I walked in and was nicely greeted by the owners. As you can imagine, most of their menu is based on brisket. Brisket sandwich, brisket burger, brisket meatloaf, brisket chowder, etc. One of the offerings is called the Triple Slider Sampler. It is three "slider" size sandwiches with sliced brisket on one, meatloaf on another and brisket burger on the third. With a pickle slice, french fried onions and a chipolte mayo on each, they went down real easy. The sliced brisket was nicely tender and a good flavor. And the chipolte mayo set it off nicely.
You get one side with this and I choose the hot brown german potato salad. I also get an extra side green chile hominy. A winner on both.
You can check out their menu on their website which is: http://www.brisketbasket.com/
I will definitely be back as I like this place. And I am not associated with and obtain any profits with this restaurant. This is a nice addition to St. Pete.

The Luau Boys Review May 2007
Listen. You have to try this place. It was wonderful, plain and simple. So, Brisket Basket, keep up the good work, keep the food fresh, the service with a smile and you will get our gratitude with many return visits.

Smokey brisket sandwich! Need I say more? Various Sliders with fresh cut Yukon gold fries. Hottsie Tottsie Slaw, German Potato Salad redolent with bacon and vinegar for sides. This terrific little addition to the fast food genre is a welcome change of pace. Don't forget the off-beat sides like Green Chile Hominy. Meatloaf sandwiches/marinated grilled chicken/fresh tuna salad available as sandwiches or wraps. It is a definite repeat go-to for something different. Fun decor with cartoon cow motif, they will even serve you in your car (sorry, no rollerblades). The brisket is our favorite, smokey, sassy, tender, moist served on great yeast rolls with chipotle mayonnaise. (Four out of five "forks")
